Lambeth council bosses have been forced to back down over compulsory redundancies after library workers threatened to strike in the south London borough.
The Unison union members called off their strike planned for Friday of last week after coming to the deal.
The deal was to be put to the vote among workers this week. The employers have agreed to extend the legal deadline for strikes so this can happen.
Lambeth branch secretary Jon Rogers said, “This is a lesson to every other worker—in Lambeth council and elsewhere—that to look after your interests you have to be prepared to take industrial action.”
The next step is to carry that fighting spirit through to the other battles workers face across the council.
