Safety report targets London Fire Brigade bosses

Issue No. 2263

London fire Brigade bosses have been targeted in a damning health and safety report.

The Health and Safety Executive looked at areas of concern following the deaths of two London firefighters at a fire in Bethnal Green in 2004.

The report highlights the need for better training in the use of breathing apparatus among 13 areas for improvement.

The FBU union’s regional health and safety co-ordinator, Gordon Fielden, said, “This is the most critical part of a firefighter’s job, and one that can make the difference between lives being lost or saved.” The report says firefighters’ demands for better training have often gone unheeded by bosses.
