Threat to Chase Farm Hospital

Issue No. 2266

Leaks suggest that Tory health secretary Andrew Lansley will announce plans next month to merge Chase Farm Hospital in Enfield, north London, with another trust.

After the release of a report from the Independent Reconfiguration Panel (IRP), Lansley has decided to back the merger of Chase Farm with North Middlesex University Hospital Trust.

Lansley said that he would end top-down NHS closures when he took office.

The merger plans, which involves moving maternity and emergency paediatric care, were first proposed in 2006

Some 10,000 people protested against this and “Save Chase Farm” councillors were elected, forcing the then Labour government to back down.

The Tories want to put the attacks back on the table. The campaign must be reinvigorated.
