Council workers in Shropshire have started a strike ballot against proposed mass sackings.
The council plans to dismiss all 6,500 workers on 30 September to try and force through 5 percent pay cuts.
Bosses also want to force through worse hours, and scrap overtime and standby payments.
They even plan to remove sick pay for the first three days of any illness.
The workers voted by 74 percent to strike in an indicative ballot this month. The branch has held a series of big members’ meetings.
It has launched a county-wide campaign to win a yes vote in the ballot. Action could then begin in September.
