Charity workers in pay fight

Issue No. 2267

Workers at Scottish social care charity Quarriers have voted to strike against the threat of losing almost a quarter of their pay.

The care workers will lose up to £400 a month. They voted 76 percent for strikes.

“No one can cope with a 23 percent pay cut,” said Unison union branch secretary Stephen Brown.

“For Quarriers to suggest that they will set up a hardship fund for their own staff, funded out of their own pay cuts, shows how much the organisation has lost touch with its values.”

Bosses also want cuts to sick pay and increased pension contributions.
