Council workers across Birmingham are to strike during the Lib Dems’ party conference in the city later this month.
The Unison members will walk out for one day on Wednesday 21 September.
It will hit the Lib Dems’ flagship coalition council—on the day party leader Nick Clegg makes his speech to the conference.
The union is fighting pay cuts and what it calls the “Martini contract”, which would let the council force workers to do any job, any time, anywhere.
It expects the GMB and Ucatt unions to join the strike.
Unison previously walked out as part of the united public sector strikes on 30 June.
The strikers will picket in the morning before protesting outside the Lib Dem conference at 10.30am.
In the run-up to the strike the workers are also set to join the TUC’s march against the Lib Dems in Birmingham on Sunday 18 September.
