Pension age to rise faster

Issue No. 2269

Millions of people could have to work for an extra year before they get their pension.

The government has announced it is bringing forward its rise in the state pension age to 67 to as soon as 2026.

A rise to 66 by 2020 is already being pushed through.

If the pension age keeps rising at this rate then someone who is 37 today would have to work until they are 70 years old.

And a child born this year could have to work to 77.
