Workers at Shropshire council to strike

by Tom Walker
Issue No. 2269

Workers at Shropshire council will strike on Thursday of next week over cuts to pay and conditions.

The Unison union members will walk out for the day—and march on the full council meeting.

It comes after they voted 66 percent for strikes.

The council plans to dismiss all 6,500 workers on Friday 30 September to try and force through 5 percent pay cuts.

Bosses also want to force through worse hours, and scrap overtime and standby payments.

They even plan to remove sick pay for the first three days of any illness.

The strike will come just a day after strikes across Birmingham and Doncaster councils on Wednesday.

March on the council meeting: Assemble 9am, Thursday 22 September, Abbey Foregate car park, Shrewsbury. Rally at Shirehall, 10am
