Barnsley College: we will fight to defend our union rep

Issue No. 2270

Barnsley College lecturers in the UCU union will strike on Thursday of next week in defence of their branch secretary.

A well-attended branch meeting voted unanimously to strike to demand the threat of compulsory redundancy be lifted from Graham Mustin.

The decision came after hopes that the dispute was close to resolution were dashed by the college management.

Dave Gibson, UCU branch treasurer, said, “We know that there is a job there that Graham could do if the management would let him.

“Members recognised that we need to show the college management that we are not going to abandon Graham.”

He added that the branch is also organising over other issues arising out of a restructure at the end of last term. “We are linking them all together and organising a series of meetings,” he said.
