Food packs for the poor

Issue No. 2271

Some 6,000 people in Scotland will be forced to rely on food handouts, according to the Trussell Trust charity. Last week job centres were told to send poor families to the charity’s food banks.

More than 100,000 families could be referred to charity for essential items like baked beans and tea bags.

Unemployment, slashed benefits and high prices are to blame for this poverty. But there is resistance to the attacks that mean misery for so many.

This Saturday thousands of campaigners were set to march through Glasgow on the Scottish TUC Put People First protest.

Many will then travel to Manchester to demonstrate outside the Tory party conference.
