Theresa May wants more deportations

Issue No. 2272

The Tories say they support families. But it turns out that they support some more than others.

The Tories are complaining that migrants who are found guilty of crimes can appeal against their deportation under article 8 of the Human Rights Act.

Article 8 calls for respect for private and family life.

Home secretary Theresa May wants to change immigration law to stop migrants from using the article to appeal against deportation.

Some Tories are demanding that Britain opts out of the Human Rights Act altogether.
