Remploy future hangs in the balance

Issue No. 2274

Remploy workers protested at parliament on Wednesday of last week as their jobs hung in the balance.

This week their fate will be decided as the government releases the results of its “consultation”.

The workers expect it will recommend the closure of the state-run factories, which employ disabled workers.

Their GMB union says it has found evidence that the firm is already winding up its pension scheme in preparation for a shutdown.

Remploy was set up in 1945 and has 54 factories.
