Students are preparing for a mass national protest in London on 9 November against the government’s higher education white paper.
The white paper entrenches competition in education. It is part of a drive to turn public services into businesses.
The National Union of Students and UCU lecturers’ union are backing the protest.
Mark Bergfeld, an executive member of the NUS, told Socialist Worker, “The protest is a key date for every education activist and the whole movement.
“Last year the student movement galvanised the fight against austerity.
“Now we have a global movement against the crisis led by young people.
“A militant student demonstration can help set the tone for the strikes on 30 November—where students will join picket lines and protests on the day.”
Students, backed by their student unions, have booked transport to the protest from across Britain.
The Education Activist Network will hold a day school on education on Saturday 29 October. For more on this and the national protest go to http://educationactivistnetwork.wordpress.com
