Cop pleads not guilty to manslaughter of Ian Tomlinson

Issue No. 2274

PC Simon Harwood has pled not guilty to the manslaughter of Ian Tomlinson. Harwood, a member of the Met’s Territorial Support Group, is now due to stand trial next year.

The Crown Prosecution Service pressed charges for Ian’s death after an inquest returned a verdict of unlawful killing.

Ian died shortly after being shoved and struck with a baton by Harwood during G20 protests in London in 2009.

The United Families and Friends campaign, which brings together people whose loved ones have died in police custody, will protest this Saturday 29 October. Assemble 12.30pm, by Nelson’s Column, Trafalgar Square, London. Go to www.uffc-campaigncentral.net
