Industrial action over tube safety

Tube drivers have voted by a four to one margin for industrial action short of a strike in a safety dispute on London Underground.

Managers are trying to unilaterally impose new procedures despite safety objections from RMT union representatives.

From Friday of this week until further notice, drivers will refuse to cooperate.

Bob Crow, general secretary of the RMT, said the unsafe procedures were being “bulldozed through in the dash for cuts”.

The union has also leaked a management “operational strategy” document which outlines plans to axe 1,500 jobs, close all ticket offices and introduce driverless trains.

“Every single ticket office would be closed, stations left unstaffed and drivers would be thrown out of their cabs,” Crow added.
