A key hearing for Yunus Bakhsh

Issue No. 2276

Yunus Bakhsh, the sacked nurse and trade union activist who won a stunning victory against his employers, was due to face another key hearing this week.

Yunus won his case for unfair dismissal against Northumbria Tyne and Wear NHS Trust last year.

The employment tribunal panel concluded that he was sacked for his trade union activity and discriminated against because he suffers from depression.

The trust was later ordered to re-employ Yunus. But when he turned up to work he was sent away.

This week another employment tribunal hearing was due to decide on what should happen next.

The trust’s treatment of Yunus is a disgrace. He has struggled for over five years since his initial suspension, and against great odds has disproved all allegations levelled at him.

But he has still been denied justice—and left with a massive legal bill. However, he has powerful friends in the trade union movement.

In addition Ian Mearns MP has raised questions with the Trust about the case.

John McDonnell MP has demanded the full truth and immediate action from the Trust to treat Yunus properly.

This is a crucial case—and Yunus needs your support this week.
