Police quit to avoid misconduct charges

Issue No. 2276

Police officers are avoiding misconduct charges by quitting their jobs early.

Between 2008 and 2010 at least 489 officers facing charges escaped the disciplinary process altogether by resigning their posts. They also got to keep a clean disciplinary record.

Some 1,915 officers were found guilty of misconduct in the same period. But just 382 of them were forced to resign.
