The Department for Work and Pensions announced the closure of 19 job centres across Britain on Friday of last week after a period of consultation. They originally proposed closing 22 centres.
The PCS condemned the decision. It said in a statement, “With unemployment increasing and the economy heading for recession, DWP should be expanding its services not cutting them and should be opening Job Centres not closing them.
“PCS will continue to campaign to keep these offices open, building on the excellent campaigning work that many reps and members have already set in place.”
The PCS were set to lobby parliament last Wednesday against the plans.
