Newham school strike suspended for talks

Issue No. 2278

Action has been suspended at Langdon School in Newham, pending talks with conciliation service Acas.

NUT members at the school were due to hold another two day strike this week in their continuing dispute over workload and oppressive management.

This follows three strike days so far this term.

Students at the school made an intervention last week with a demonstration outside the school gates over their own grievances and demands.

Speakers from the union group are visiting other NUT branches in London to seek solidarity. Messages of support continue to come in from all around the country.

The NUT teachers’ union continues to back the action.

As it agreed to go to Acas, it also announced that the strikes would restart next week if talks failed.

It gave notice of three strikes every week until the Christmas break.
