NUT members at Sowerby Bridge High in West Yorkshire are celebrating victory in their campaign to win asylum status for the Zaouche family.
Kevin Mottram, NUT rep, said “This is marvellous news.
“After living in fear of deportation for the last four years the family have now been told they can stay.
“As teachers we have been amazed at how well the children have coped throughout this ordeal and we were determined to show our support.
“NUT members wrote individual letters to the Home Office and gave financial help to the family.
“We contacted the union’s general secretary, Christine Blower, and she gave her support by also writing to the Home Office. The NUT’s national magazine also profiled the campaign.
“This case shows that campaigning can make a difference and so we hope it inspires others to keep on fighting.”
