The right wing ultras of the Tory party are starting to make a fuss.
Patrick Mercer MP called David Cameron a “despicable creature without any redeeming features”.
He allegedly predicted that Cameron would be ousted in a backbench coup. Mercer said, “He’ll resign in the spring.”
Mercer was forced to resign as Cameron’s shadow homeland security spokesman in 2007. He had claimed the army had “a lot of ethnic minority soldiers who were idle” who “used racism as cover for their misdemeanours”.
He also said that during his time in the army it was perfectly normal for a soldier to be called a “black bastard”.
Like disgraced defence secretary Liam Fox, Mercer takes a keen interest in intelligence and defence industry matters.
The former army officer has said of the intelligence services, “I have had plenty to do with them in the past, as with all the intelligence agencies in Northern Ireland.”
It says something about the Tories that some of them think the government isn’t being hard enough on ordinary people.
