Fortnum and Mason trial is on

Issue No. 2278

Ten activists who occupied luxury shop Fortnum and Mason began their trial on Thursday of last week. They are accused of aggravated trespass.

The police arrested 145 occupiers on the 26 March action but have decided to pursue charges against just 30.

All are pleading not guilty.

On Monday the court was shown footage of a police officer telling the occupiers that they wouldn’t be arrested.

The defence has called several top police officers who were in charge of policing the protests to give evidence.

Student protester Charlie Gilmore has been released from prison. Charlie was sentenced to 16 months for violent disorder. He served four of these and will now be under a curfew.
