The government has doubled the budget for ceremonies at the Olympic and Paralympic games. It has thrown another £41 million into the pot for shows on the opening and closing nights.
This is despite the fact that funding for ceremonies would usually come from private organising committee Locog.
The total cost of these shows now stands at £81 million. The extra cash came from within the £9.3 billion budget for the Olympic and Paralympic games.
But this funding is fast drying up—and more will be ploughed in. Security costs are already double the estimates.
