Footage of obscene racist rants by David Norris and Gary Dobson was shown to the jury during the trial.
The extracts were taken from a surveillance video shot at Gary Dobson’s flat in Eltham, south east London in 1994.
Dobson is shown repeatedly using the word “nigger”. Recalling a time when he threatened a black workmate with a knife Dobson said, “I said, ‘tap me once more, you silly cunt, I’m going to fucking slice this down you seven times.’”
He was also seen wandering around the flat with a large knife, complaining that a “Paki” had won the lottery.
In one of the clips Norris said, “If I was going to kill myself do you know what I would do? I would go and kill every black cunt, every Paki, every copper, every mug that I know I’m telling you.”
Later he went on, “I would go down Catford and places like that I am telling you now, with two sub-machine guns, and I am telling you I would take one of them, skin the black cunt alive mate, torture him, set him alight...
“I would blow their two arms and legs off and say ‘go on, you can swim home now’. They would be bobbing around like that.”
Another video clip showed Dobson’s friend Neil Acourt, who was not on trial, hiding a large knife in his trousers before the pair went out.
And Norris has form. He threw a drinks carton and shouted “nigger” at an off-duty detective constable, Gareth Reid, as he was crossing the road in front of the car Norris was travelling in. Reid is black.
Neil Acourt was driving the car. Acourt now calls himself Neil Stuart. He was also part of the gang.
Before they were jailed for the attack on Reid, Dobson and Acourt wrote to the nazi London nail bomber, David Copeland: “We are being done for abusing a black copper. We hope we don’t get stuck in with a load of niggers.”
