Workers' strike sends a signal

Train signalling staff at the West of Scotland signalling centre in Glasgow struck for 72 hours over the Christmas break.

Around 100 trains were cancelled on Christmas Eve. Network Rail had planned to use managers and non-union staff to break the strike, but too few were available.

The signallers are members of the RMT union. The dispute is over Network Rail management unilaterally dropping longstanding promotion practices.

Pay strike on Merseyrail

The RMT has called 24-hour strike over pay on Monday of next week for Merseyrail support staff employed by services firm Lorne Stewart.

Wightlink ferries action off

Planned industrial action at Wightlink ferries has been called off. The RMT union says Paul Kelly, the rep whose dismissal sparked the dispute, has found alternative employment.
