Agency workers protest at Argos

Issue No. 2284

Agency workers in the Unite union at the Argos Distribution Centre near Burton on Trent protested on 22 December against bosses’ attempts to continue paying them a lower rate.

New EU regulations give agency workers the right to equal pay with directly employed staff. But workers say that Argos and the Adecco agency have pressured them to sign a contract waiving this right, or else lose their job.

Workers receive up to £120 a week less than those employed directly by Argos for doing the same work. There may be strikes at the site.
