Zimbabwe trial grills star witness

Issue No. 2285

The cross-examination of the prosecution’s star witness resumed on Monday in the trial of six Zimbabwe socialists.

Lawyers continue to provide evidence that the main prosecution witness Rodwell Chitiyo is an intelligence agent, not a policeman as he claims.

Munyaradzi Gwisai, Tafadzwa Choto, Tatenda Mombeyarara, Edson Chakuma, Hopewell Gumbo and Welcome Zimuto are charged with “conspiracy to commit public violence” for showing a video of the Egyptian and Tunisian revolutions.

This carries a maximum sentence of 20 years.
