Anti-landfill campaign

by Tony Dowling
Issue No. 1922

Residents Against Rubbish (RAR) is continuing its campaign to stop Gateshead council’s proposals to allow private company SITA to create a new landfill site next to their homes in Stargate. It met with representatives from the Environment Agency recently.

This followed the demonstration at Burnhills landfill when protesters had prevented delivery of four truckloads of waste. The protesters need to continue with their high profile strategy of protests. Further blockades of SITA’s highly profitable sites might make them take Residents Against Rubbish more seriously.
