Disabled workers down tools over privatisation

by Claire Lyall
Issue No. 2288

Remploy workers in the Unite and GMB unions struck in Glasgow and Chesterfield on Thursday of last week. They are fighting what they call the “semi-privatisation” of their factories.

Remploy is a government-owned company which provides employment for disabled people.

Workers say that their factories have taken on workers who aren’t disabled—on terms and conditions inferior to those of Remploy workers.
