'Scottish Stephen Lawrence’ case reopens

Issue No. 2288

Police in Strathclyde are to reopen investigations into what murder lawyer Aamer Anwar has dubbed the “Scottish Stephen Lawrence case”.

Surjit Singh Chhokar was attacked by three men in 1998 outside his girlfriend’s flat in Lanarkshire. He was stabbed to death.

Despite two trials no one has ever been convicted of the murder.

A 2001 report blamed the failure of the investigation on institutional racism.
