Up to 440 jobs to go at Argos

Issue No. 2289

Workers at Argos’s distribution centre in Corby, Northamptonshire, were shocked by the announcement on Tuesday of last week that the site is to close.

The closure could cost up to 440 jobs. It follows announcements of 150 job cuts in the town at Tata Steel and up to 150 at Eddie Stobart.

The distribution centre is run by logistics firm Wincanton.

Staff were told that Argos had chosen the site because Wincanton had agreed a contract that would allow them to pull out at any time.
