Families in £8,000 debt

Issue No. 2289

The average household debt is now £8,000. A report says that despite people making cutbacks and spending less, debts continue to rise.

These debts are on overdrafts, loans and credit cards.

The report, by accounting firm Price Waterhouse Coopers, also found that a quarter of 25-34 year olds are using credit cards for essential purchases.
