LGBT activists discuss theory

Issue No. 2290

Around 100 activists attended a day school on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues on Saturday.

It was held in central London and was organised by the Socialist Workers Party.

An opening plenary placed LGBT politics in the context of wider Marxist theories of oppression.

The day school then split into workshops on a variety of topics.

These included sessions on the roots of LGBT oppression, on transgender politics, and on the sexuality policies of the early Bolshevik government in Russia.
