Tories splash out for party fundraiser

Issue No. 2290

Austerity and crisis didn’t stop top Tories from having a lavish time last week.

Their “Black And White” fundraising party held in Battersea, south London, saw them splashing out at an auction.

Bargains on sale included a 19-inch bronze figure of Margaret Thatcher, snapped up for just £120,000.

Fancy dinner for eight with London mayor Boris Johnson at Mosimann’s restaurant in Knightsbridge? Yours for a mere £55,000.

Shooting animals remains a favoured Tory pastime. One guest shelled out £55,000 for the chance to despatch a few pheasants and partridges at an Oxfordshire estate.

The whole event was sponsored by private investment fund Shore Capital. Unlike last year, organisers banned the charming practice of auctioning internships with City firms.
