Shot man fit for work, says Atos

Issue No. 2290

Another shocking case of private firm Atos declaring people “fit to work” when they are clearly sick or disabled has come to light.

Private Eye this week reports on Keith Tilbury, who worked as an emergency call centre operator.

He was accidentally shot in the stomach by a police officer in 2007. He was so badly wounded he spent 13 days in a coma with damage to his kidney, liver and bowel.

Since then Keith has had two heart attacks, two mini-strokes and one full-blown stroke that has reduced his vision.

Despite all this, Atos declared that he was fit for work—a decision Keith is now appealing against.
