The government’s Welfare Reform Bill was passed by parliament last week.
It will make it far harder for people to claim the benefits they need to pay for housing, childcare or to supplement low wages.
Some aspects of the bill had been watered down through amendments in the House of Lords.
But almost all of these amendments have now been overturned or withdrawn.
The attacks will devastate people’s lives. Even the parliament’s Joint Committee on Human Rights has warned that the bill could force people out of their homes.
The reforms could even violate international conventions on human rights, the committee added.
Disabled people will be particularly badly hit by the bill. The Multiple Sclerosis Trust said the bill risks driving people with MS into poverty and worsening their health.
