Martin Yates

FRIENDS AND comrades of Martin Yates were shocked to hear of his tragic death. Martin was an active trade unionist in the civil service for 30 years and a leading member of the PCS and the Socialist Alliance in Merseyside.

He remained passionate in his commitments to socialism and the environment throughout his adult life.

Martin will be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially by his family-Stella, Peter, Jonathan and Anna.

The respect in which Martin was held was illustrated by the attendance at his funeral of over 200 people-some travelled from as far away as London and Glasgow.

Perhaps his most fitting memorial is the current PCS position of implacable opposition to the appalling treatment of asylum seekers which is the result of a conference motion written by Martin on his kitchen table.
