Bus workers

Issue No. 1902

HIGH-HANDED managers at the Mitcham Belle bus company have forced workers to ballot for strike action and for action short of a strike. The workers are members of the RMT union. They are fighting for better pay and conditions and against bosses who refuse to recognise the union.

RMT general secretary Bob Crow said, "90 percent of the workers at this company are members of RMT, yet the employer has refused to recognise the union they have chosen. It is astonishing that in this day and age an employer should act as if they can do as they please with their workforce, dictating pay, terms and conditions. We are asking our members to vote decisively for industrial action." The ballot is set to close on 3 June.
