Around 450 marched and rallied in Swindon last Saturday in support of striking health workers.

The workers are members of the GMB union, and employed by private contractor Carillion at the Great Western Hospital.

Strikers chanted “Carillion we will win, Carillion stop bullying!”, dancing to drums as they marched.

One striker told Socialist Worker, “This morning we received letters from management asking us to come into work today. They knew we had our protest today, so it was obviously an attempt to divide us.

“It shows that they are desperate to break the strike, which means we are having an impact.

“We have called more strikes to increase the pressure because we know that we can win.”

Strikers were joined by their families, and other trade unionists and supporters. Banners were on show from Swindon NUT, Swindon Unison, Bristol Unite health branch, Bristol CWU, Wiltshire FBU and Right to Work.

The workers have started a further seven days of strikes set to last until Friday of this week.
