Council leaders met up for the Local Government Chronicle awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel in central London on Wednesday of last week.
Councillors quaffed champagne and glugged wine. They feasted on a starter of Serrano ham with asparagus followed by tournedos of beef in a smoked garlic and red wine sauce with pancetta, celeriac, chestnut mushrooms, French beans and Anna potato.
Tickets cost up to £7,200 for a table of ten. These same councils have imposed savage cuts in their services.
