Minimum wage frozen for young

Issue No. 2295

The government has frozen the minimum wage for 16 to 20 year olds.

The rate for 16 and 17 year olds will be a measly £3.68 an hour, while 18 to 20 year olds will get just £4.98 an hour.

This is the first time that the minimum wage level has been frozen.

Lib Dem business secretary Vince Cable claimed the freeze struck the “right balance between pay and jobs”.

But there’s no evidence that freezing pay will create jobs.
