The Tories made much of “taking millions out of tax” as a result of plans to increase the personal tax allowance to £9,205 in 2013.
The allowance is how much you can earn before you pay tax.
They claimed tens of thousands of low paid workers would now pay nothing.
But this is a lie.
For 2012/13 anyone who earns more than £146 a week will pay National Insurance. That’s a yearly income of £7,592.
And the government has announced plans to merge National Insurance contributions and income tax.
So nearly all who were set to supposedly fall out of tax as a result of the budget won’t.
