Cards depict Chartist leaders

Issue No. 2296

The Chartists of the 18th century were Britain’s first mass working class movement. They demanded basic democratic rights such as vote by secret ballot and the abolition of property qualifications for MPs.

Past Pixels has produced a set of five greeting cards depicting key leaders of the Chartist movement—Feargus O’Connor, William Cuffay (right), John Frost, James “Bronterre” O’Brien and Ernest Jones.

The images are reproduced from original photographs, engravings and lithographs held at the National Portrait Gallery and Manchester City Library. The cards are produced in memory of radical historian Dorothy Thompson, who died last year. Contact dave@pastpixels.co.uk
