Around 100 people joined a protest outside the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI) on Thursday of last week. It was called in 24 hours after news that the Health and Social Care Bill had been passed.
Medical student Jonathan Broad, a member of the BRI’s nursing staff, told the crowd, “Private health providers will be taking over what have been free, public health services.”
The protest was followed by a funeral march through the city centre on Saturday.
Health march in Lancashire
Around 75 people marched through Chorley, Lancashire, to defend the NHS.
The protest was called by the local Unite union branch.
Dialysis protest hits Birmingham
