Workers at Mahle Engine Systems in Kilmarnock will strike for three days a week to defend jobs, according to the Unite union.
They will also begin an overtime ban.
Workers fear that the firm’s owners may relocate the manufacturing of car components from their site to others in Italy and Slovakia.
They could lead to the closure of the plant. Workers rejected new proposals from management last weekend.
Unite industrial officer Jim Winter said, “In effect, they have asked workers to seal their fate and support continued plans to asset strip the plant.”
The first day of action was expected to begin on Thursday of this week.
