We pay for Cam dine with me

Cameron spent nearly £2 million of public money on doing up the Downing Street flats where he held dinners for donors

Issue No. 2296

Cameron spent £1.8 million of public money on doing up the Downing Street flats where he held dinners for donors.

Details of what the cash went on are sketchy. Most payments are listed as “building renovation” or “refurbishment”.

To lose one treasurer...

The latest Tory treasurer is Stanley Lord Fink, the “godfather” of the hedge fund industry. In recent years he has branched out into running the Ark group of academy schools.

Fink has donated more than £2 million to the Conservative Party and its MPs over the past decade.

Before Cruddas, the Tories tried to appoint multi‑millionaire tax exile David Rowland as treasurer.

But his tax affairs were so murky he never even got to take up the job.

Labour's waste of union funds

The bizarre response from Tories has been to bleat about union funding of the Labour Party.

Seeing how useless Labour has been at standing up to the Tories it is a wonder the unions still give them money.

We should defend the right of unions to fund political parties. But if Labour wants our money it needs to fight for the rights of workers with the same vigour the Tories fight for the bosses’ interests.
