ENGINEERING workers at saw blades firm BAHCO in Rotherham began a series of week-long strikes over pay after months of talks broke down.

The 86 workers (all members of the Amicus union) at the US-owned factory rejected a deal that meant 3.1 percent this year, followed by 2.5 percent over the next two years.

They want a minimum rise of 10 percent over three years. Their average basic pay is £237 a week with women workers on even less at £219.
