Packaging workers target clients

Locked out workers from Mayr Melnof Packaging (MMP) factory in Bootle near Liverpool were in Manchester on Thursday of last week.

Around 50 of the workers, who are members of the Unite union, rallied outside Kellogg’s factory in Trafford Park.

Kellogg’s is one of MMP’s most important clients. It is being targeted as part of Unite’s leverage campaign to pressure MMP through its clients and partners.

Workers waved from the windows, a passing fire engine broadcast “up the workers” on its tannoy, and lorries and cars honked in support. After the rally workers took their campaign to supermarkets in Manchester.

Supporters have arranged a solidarity meeting in Manchester on Wednesday of this week.
