An arrested currency speculator traded through a firm owned by shamed Tory treasurer Peter Cruddas.
Alex Hope, who rose to notoriety when he splashed thousands on champagne, was arrested under suspicion of unauthorised trading.
Cruddas’ firm CMC Markets refused to comment, but it is understood Hope had been trading with the firm for some time. He even featured in a video on its website, which has now been removed.
Hope’s bar bill included £125,000 for a giant double Nebuchadnezzar of Armand de Brignac champagne. The tab also included 40 bottles of Ace of Spades champagne.
