Conlon Nancarrow weekend

21-22 April, Southbank Centre, London SE1

Issue No. 2299

A festival celebrating the works of maverick Marxist composer Conlon Nancarrow takes place at London’s Southbank Centre this weekend.

Arkansas-born Nancarrow fought in the Spanish Civil War and was exiled in Mexico during the McCarthy era. The festival includes his compositions for mechanical pianos that are too complex to be played by human hands.
